Cardiology Fellowship Training Program

A message from:
Lillian Aldaia, MD, FACC
Program Director
Cardiology Fellowship Training Program
Morristown Medical Center

Thank you for taking the time to learn about our cardiology fellowship. Our mission is to develop our fellows into successful cardiologists while helping each physician fulfill their goals in the clinical and academic spheres. The training at Morristown Medical Center is personalized and intense. Fellow education focuses on case-based learning and close one-on-one training with faculty members who see mentorship and education as a privilege and joy.

My aim as program director is to guide internal medicine physicians over the three years of fellowship to become highly skilled and independently thinking cardiologists ready to tackle the full scope of cardiovascular medicine. Our fellows are expert consultants, investigators and educators. Successful recruitment of underrepresented minority applicants is a program priority.

The spectrum of clinical material at Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute spans the full range of inherited and acquired cardiovascular disease. Our facilities and the breadth of procedural expertise are among the finest in the nation. Our diverse patient population allows our fellows to provide compassionate, patient-centered care while practicing innovative medicine.

Our educational curriculum fosters scientific knowledge and intensive training in procedural skills. In our program, we get to know each fellow’s educational needs and we take considerable pride in fostering their professional growth. Close attention to the learning needs of each individual trainee allows us to identify both strengths and areas needing improvement so that we can provide adequate support to help fellows reach their full potential.

Graduates from our program pursue advanced subspecialty training, academic and research-focused careers, and clinical practice.

At Morristown Medical Center, we remain open to change—we turn a critical eye to ourselves and look to see ways we can improve. Our fellows will never hear the words “we’ve always done things this way” in defense of an imperfect aspect of the training environment. We encourage our faculty and fellows to voice concerns regarding the program; if there is an area in need of improvement, we make changes quickly and with the input of our current fellows.

We are fully committed to helping each of our fellows reach and exceed their professional goals. I personally look forward to meeting and getting to know highly qualified applicants who are up to the challenge of our intensive learning environment and who are interested in becoming members of the Atlantic Health System Morristown Medical Center Cardiovascular Fellowship family.

As a national leader in the research and treatment of cardiac disease, Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute at Morristown Medical Center offers a cardiovascular disease fellowship. Our program is designed to train fellows to provide compassionate, patient-centered and evidence-based care in a state-of-the-art referral center.

At Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute, the largest cardiac program in the state, specially-trained, nationally-renowned cardiologists provide instruction in advanced cardiovascular medicine. Fellows learn how to evaluate and manage patients with a broad range of cardiovascular conditions. They are also trained in advanced imaging, including echocardiography, nuclear cardiology, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT); electrophysiology; heart failure treatment, including left ventricular assist devices; and interventional cardiology, including transcatheter interventions for structural heart disease.

In addition, fellows receive instruction in emergency cardiac care, pre-operative evaluation for both cardiac and non-cardiac surgery, heart wellness educational programs, cardiac rehabilitation and our award-winning Women’s Heart Awareness Program.

Our dynamic cardiovascular disease fellowship program also features:

  • Diverse clinical experience
  • Comprehensive ancillary services that facilitate care and learning
  • Online curriculum and resources
  • Comprehensive core conference series
  • Proximity to New York City in a suburban environment
We believe that our fellows are integral to the success of our program. For this reason, we seek candidates who will benefit from our challenging academic environment and contribute to a team approach. At Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute, hands-on experience and our faculty’s one-on-one approach to teaching will allow you to develop to your full potential as a cardiologist.
