A Heartfelt Thank-You to the People of Our Community

October 19, 2020

While we have all found ourselves in uncharted territory since March, one constant has been the strong partnership between Overlook Medical Center and the communities we serve. As our health care heroes went above and beyond for weeks on end to care for the hundreds of COVID-19 patients who came through our doors, the wonderful people of Summit and neighboring towns rose to the occasion and did everything they could to support us.

Throughout the years, we’ve come to view our relationship with the community as a partnership – one that we value and never take for granted. Yet the full measure of this partnership has never been so apparent as it has been in recent months.

Friends and neighbors in the community, fire and police departments, area colleges and local businesses, construction and landscaping companies, major corporations and our own physicians and board members have all stepped up to help.

During the height of the pandemic, carloads of boxes were delivered around the clock, containing everything from medical supplies and personal protective equipment, to sneakers and Crocs; from snacks and bottled water, to holiday treats; from gel insoles for our staff, to brand-new clothing for patients being discharged. The Chinese-American communities in our area donated thousands of masks, gloves, goggles, and face shields. The Front-Line Appreciation Groups (FLAGs) of Summit, Millburn/Short Hills, Berkeley Heights, New Providence, Westfield, Warren, Union, Mountainside, and others partnered with local restaurants to deliver hundreds of individually-wrapped meals to both our day and night shifts.

Please know that everyone at the Overlook Foundation and at the medical center deeply appreciates your dedication and support during this challenging time. It has meant so much to us to know that the community didn’t hesitate to stand alongside us in battling this worldwide pandemic right here at home.

Sincerely,
