Morristown Medical Center Designated as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence by the American College of Radiology

June 20, 2015

June 2015, Morristown, NJ – Morristown Medical Center, part of Atlantic Health System, one of the largest non-profit health care systems in New Jersey, received the prestigious recognition as a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence™ (DICOE) by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The hospital joins a select number of centers across the country honored with this best-in-class recognition.

“People are becoming more educated about their health care choices, and are actively seeking out the highest quality services for their imaging needs,” said Hal N. Ginsberg, MD, chairman of the department of radiology at Morristown Medical Center. “Our unique commitment to the ‘high tech, high touch’ model—the latest technology coupled with sound, compassionate care—was a driving factor behind this recognition, and we are thrilled this has been acknowledged by the ACR through this distinction.”

Morristown Medical Center’s radiology specialists have advanced training in a variety of areas, including pediatrics, cardiac CT and MR, nuclear imaging, interventional radiology, sports health, breast and neuroradiology. They have made sure their patients have access to state-of-the-art technology, including specialized equipment for breast and heart, for example–some of which only a few hospitals offer. The staff has consistently earned a number of top certifications and accolades: They are a Diagnostic Center of Excellence, Breast Imaging Center of Excellence and “Designated” Lung Screening Center, all through the American College of Radiology.

“Being named a Diagnostic Imaging Center of Excellence further showcases our commitment to delivering the highest levels of imaging quality, safety and care,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, interim president, Morristown Medical Center.  “It is an honor to be able to say that our facility exceeds American College of Radiology standards, the gold standard in imaging accreditation.”

About the DICOE Program

The DICOE program, which represents the pinnacle of medical imaging care, is an achievement that goes beyond accreditation to recognize best-quality imaging practices and diagnostic care. This includes a comprehensive assessment of the entire medical imaging enterprise, including structure and outcomes. The DICOE designation recognizes excellence at multiple levels—including the professional staff, the technology and the policies and procedures the organization follows—and superior patient care.

In order to receive this elite distinction, facilities must be accredited by the ACR in all modalities they provide, and in which the ACR offers an accreditation program. Another requirement is to participate in the Dose Index Registry® and General Radiology Improvement Database, as well as Image Wisely® and Image Gently,® awareness programs dedicated to radiation safety and education.
