August 29, 2018

National Recognition Based on Quality, Safety, and Outcomes Data

August 28, 2018, Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center today announced that its cardiovascular surgery program has once again received three stars (the highest rating) in three categories – Isolated Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), Isolated Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) and combined CABG and AVR –  from the Society of Thoracic Surgeons. The medical center received two stars in the Mitral Replacement/Repair and Mitral Replacement/Repair plus CABG categories. The ratings are based on data from January 2015-December 2017 (AVR and AVR + CABG) and January -December 2017 (CABG).

“This rating is one of the most sophisticated and widely regarded measures of quality in health care, and affirms our daily commitment to safety, quality, and positive outcomes,” said Linda Gillam, MD, MPH, Dorothy and Lloyd Huck Chair, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Medical Director Cardiovascular Service Line, Morristown Medical Center/ Atlantic Health System. “Only a small number of hospitals in the nation can say they are rated three stars by the STS in these categories, and we are proud to be among them.”

“2018 marks 30 years since the founding of the cardiac surgery program at Morristown Medical Center by Dr. Grant Parr, and we continue to be regional and national leaders in the breadth and quality of the procedures we provide our patients,” said Will Neate, Vice President, Physician Enterprise Strategy, Atlantic Medical Group, and Cardiology Service Line Director, Atlantic Health System.

Morristown Medical Center has long been recognized as a leader in cardiology and cardiac surgery, earning numerous awards and recognitions for its cardiovascular services. Notably,

  • Ranked one of the top 20 hospitals in the nation for cardiology & heart surgery by U.S. News & World Report

  • Named one of 60 hospitals in the nation to receive the Gold Seal of Approval™ Disease-Specific Care Certification from The Joint Commission for its ventricular assist device (VAD) program

To accommodate the high volume of patients who choose Morristown Medical Center for their cardiac treatment, the best-in-class facility recently broke ground on a two-story expansion housing 72 private patient rooms and the latest imaging technology, which will open in 2019.

In addition, because of its volume and infrastructure to support research through the Atlantic Center for Research, Morristown Medical Center offers its patients access to many cutting edge approaches to diagnosis and management through its active research program.
