Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System will join other hospitals across the state in showcasing their support for reducing maternal health morbidity and mortality and racial disparities in outcomes at the March for Babies on April 28.
Atlantic Health System birthing hospitals—Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Chilton Medical Center, and Newton Medical Center—participate in the N.J. Perinatal Quality Collaborative, a statewide partnership of committed stakeholders working together to improve the quality and safety of care provided New Jersey’s mothers and babies. The initiative is supported by the New Jersey Hospital Association (NJHA), New Jersey Department of Health (NJDOH), and First Lady Tammy Murphy.
“Atlantic Health System commends and joins the NJHA, NJDOH, and First Lady Tammy Murphy in their commitment to healthier moms and babies in the state,” said Diana N. Contreras, MD, chairman of the Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Women's Health at Atlantic Health System. “We know there is more work to be done and look forward to further collaborating with the NJDOH, fellow hospitals, and our physicians, midwives, and patients to create a healthier New Jersey.”
Over the past few years, Atlantic Health System has developed and implemented best practices and programs this support this cause including:
- Creating hospital-based perinatal quality workgroups focused on quality improvement measures related to obstetric hemorrhage, severe hypertension, and low-risk C-sections among first time moms
- Active dashboards that better monitor mothers and babies and show real-time hospital data
- Reducing C-section rates
- Physician, midwife, and birthing team engagement
- Implementing protocols that can determine if a mother is in distress post-birth
- Better educating parents and staff
The march is a charitable walking event sponsored by the March of Dimes, taking place in locations across America. Representatives from Atlantic Health System will attend the event at Rutgers University’s Highpoint Solutions Stadium at 9:00am in Piscataway, NJ.
