Morristown Medical Center Achieves Comprehensive Center Accreditation from the American College of Surgeons Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program

February 7, 2019

February 7, 2019, Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center today announced it has achieved Comprehensive Center accreditation from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP), in partnership with the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). This is the medical center’s fourth accreditation.

MBSAQIP is based on rigorous quality and safety standards and patient-centric care for metabolic and bariatric patients. The accreditation is valid until June 2021.

“We are proud to provide patients in our community with a comprehensive weight management program that offers a metabolic medicine program to help patients better understand the medical reasons they may not be able to lose weight, and a bariatric surgery program that offers best-in-class surgical options for patients who need intervention,” said Michael J. Nusbaum, MD, head of bariatric surgery at Morristown Medical Center. “We know that weight management requires a personalized approach that takes into consideration each patient’s medical history, lifestyle, home situation, and physical capabilities, and our multi-specialist medical team is committed to each patient’s safety, health, and outcome, which the American College of Surgeons recognized with this accreditation.”

Atlantic Health System’s weight management services include:

  • Comprehensive testing program
  • Dedicated and specially-trained bariatric surgery health care team of surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and facilitators available at Chilton, Hackettstown, Morristown, Newton and Overlook medical centers
  • Collaboration between the American College of Nutrition and Morristown Medical Center to incorporate research-based protocols into patient treatment plans

Atlantic Health System’s Overlook Medical Center and Chilton Medical Center are also accredited by the Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program.
