Today’s children are less active, have more access to unhealthy food and spend more time on screens than ever before. Those habits have led to an alarming increase in childhood obesity and obesity-related diseases, such as diabetes, lipid abnormalities and psychosocial challenges.

The COVID-19 pandemic also changed our lives in many ways. For some children, this has meant increases in weight gain along with associated health problems.

That’s why Atlantic Health Goryeb Children’s pediatric endocrinology team offers Kid-Fit, which uses physical activity, nutrition and behavioral modifications to help overweight children and adolescents make healthier lifestyle choices.

Kid-Fit’s individualized programs vary based on each child’s age, body mass index (BMI) and health needs.

To qualify, children must meet one of the following criteria:

  • Age 3 to 18 with a BMI greater than 85th percentile
  • Weight-related health problems
  • Rapid weight gain
