Advanced Practice Nurse Fellowship Program

Advanced Practice Nurse Fellowship Program

The Advanced Practice Nurse Fellowship Program at Morristown Medical Center is designed to develop highly competent entry-to-practice nurse practitioners with a distinguished level of knowledge, professionalism, and leadership, and prepare them to practice as skilled acute and critical care providers within a multidisciplinary team.

We provide the infrastructure to support novice advanced practice nurses (APNs) by providing didactic, simulation, and hands-on clinical experience with incorporated mentorship and professional development to allow for successful transition to independent practice.

The program builds in complexity.  We begin with clinical rotations in areas such as infectious disease, nephrology and surgery, and build to rotations in the intensive care unit (ICU) for hands-on clinical experience.

Didactic days include topics such as antibiotic stewardship, critical care ethics,  having crucial conversations, and 12 lead EKG interpretation taught by the program’s faculty, key
stakeholders, and subject matter experts.

Under the continued support and guidance of preceptors and mentors, our APN fellows complete specific rotation aims and objectives. APN fellow evaluations are ongoing and include both formative and summative evaluations.

Goals and Objectives of the APN Fellowship Program

Overall program goals emphasize enhanced interdisciplinary collaboration and efficient navigation of a multi-disciplinary organization to provide exceptional patient-centered care. In addition, this fellowship program equips novice APNs with the necessary foundation and tools to meet the needs of complex, critically ill patients. Through ongoing communication and mentorship, we enhance APN professional growth, as well as employee retention within the Atlantic Health System.

APN Fellows will be trained in a variety of procedures to include central and arterial line insertion as well as other bedside procedures and Point of Care Ultrasound instruction. Upon successful completion of the program, the APN will have the opportunity to transition into highly competitive specialty areas at Morristown Medical Center thereby improving employee retention while enhancing employee skill set, confidence, and recognition.

The Critical Care APN Fellowship is accredited with distinction as an Advanced Practice Provider Fellowship Program by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation in Practice Transition Programs.
