Rotations - Diagnostic Radiology

In addition to clinical training in the emergency department and block rotations, Morristown Medical Center’s Emergency Medicine residents attend weekly emergency medicine conferences and participate in a research project with the support of our faculty members.  If accepted, the hospital supports residents to present their research at national conferences.

  • PGY- I Of the 13-block year residents spend 7 blocks in the emergency department with 17 adult shifts and 1 Pediatric shift per block and one block of 18 shifts in the Pediatric ED.  Residents will complete 1-month rotations in the medical intensive care unit (ICU), Surgical ICU, and Trauma service. The remaining block are broken up into 2-week rotations in anesthesia, obstetrics (OB), and Emergency Medical Services (EMS).  All rotation take place in Morristown Medical Center.
  • PGY- II Of the 13 block year residents spend 8 blocks in the emergency department with 16 adult shifts and 1 rural medicine shift at Hackettstown Medical Center Emergency Department. Residents will complete 2 pediatric ED blocks with 1 in the Pediatric Emergency Department and 1 shared between the Trauma Service and Pediatric ED. Residents will complete 1 month in the Medical ICU,1 month in the Pediatric ICU at Morristown Medical Center and can choose to spend their 1 month of Toxicology at either NJ or NY poison Center.   
  • PGY- III Of the 13 block year residents spend 9 blocks in the emergency department with 14 adult shifts, 1 pediatric ED shift and 1 rural medicine shift at Hackettstown Medical Center. Residents will complete 2 blocks on the Trauma services with the option to go to Baltimore Shock Trauma Center for 1 month. Residents will have the remining 2 block for difficult airway rotation, selective and elective rotations in: Administration, Simulation, Research, Geriatrics, Toxicology, International Medicine, Social EM, wilderness medicine, tactical medicine, or other focus of their choice.  Residents submit their mentor, schedule, goals, and expectations prior to the rotation for approval.
