Atlantic Health System Named a 'Best Workplace in Health Care' by Fortune , Great Place to Work®

July 20, 2015

July 2015, Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System, one of the largest health care organizations in New Jersey, was named by Great Place to Work® and Fortune among the top five in their list of the 20 Best Workplaces in Health Care.

Ranked at No. 4, the parent organization of Morristown, Overlook, Newton and Chilton Medical Centers, Goryeb Children’s Hospital and Atlantic Rehabilitation, is the highest-ranking company from New Jersey on the list.

Atlantic Health System and the 19 other winning companies were selected based on the evaluations of nearly 30,000 health care workers who were surveyed using the Trust Index©, Great Place to Work’s employee assessment survey. According to that survey, a vast majority of employees stated that their work at Atlantic Health System is more than just a job - the employees feel empowered to care for patients which provides special meaning.

“The excellence in care that patients receive throughout Atlantic Health System starts with the supportive working environment that motivates our employees and allows them to thrive,” said Brian Gragnolati, President & CEO of Atlantic Health System. “Our highly-skilled, dedicated workforce will be vital as our organization drives forward as a leader in health care.”

Earlier this year, Atlantic Health System was named for a 7th consecutive year to FORTUNE® magazine’s list of “100 Best Companies to Work For®,” ranking 39th, the highest-ranked hospital system from New Jersey on the list. It was also named by Great Place to Work® and Fortune as one of the 100 Best Workplaces For Millennials in the country, ranking 16 on the list, making it the highest-ranked NJ-based company on that list, the highest-ranked health care organization on the list, and the only NJ-based hospital system on the list.

“Over the years, we have created a robust working environment that offers something for our workforce, which includes employees at various stages of their lives and careers,” said Andrew Kovach, Vice President, Human Resources and Chief Administrative Officer, Atlantic Health System. “This recognition reflects that these efforts have been well-received by our employees at every level.”

Some of these efforts have included:

  • Professional Development: Employees have access to new organization development courses on topics like managing complexity using critical thinking, bridging the generation divide, delegating and more. Atlantic Health System offers both a mentorship program as well as a nursing externship program
  • Tuition reimbursement and education assistance that helps cover the cost of higher education and the organization has forged affiliations with local colleges and universities to provide discounts to employees and to hold courses on-site at our Atlantic Health System facilities.
  • Part-time Work for Retirees: Employees in or nearing retirement may participate in the 1000 Hour Club where they work on a limited basis (up to 1,000 hours per year) and enjoy flexible work arrangements without affecting their retirement benefits.
