Morristown Medical Center Named “Employer of the Year” by TransOptions

September 12, 2019

Morristown, NJ – Atlantic Health System’s Morristown Medical Center has been recognized as Employer of the Year by TransOptions, Inc. for its commitment to improving accessibility for patients, team members, and Morristown residents.

Over the past few years, Morristown Medical Center has focused on making it easier for the community to access its nationally recognized services and expanded its campus by adding a number of physician practices and services across the street from the main campus. The expansion meant physicians, nurses, medical students, and team members had to cross a very busy street in front of the hospital, causing traffic delays and confusion about right of way.

After working with TransOptions, the Morristown Police, the New Jersey Department of Transportation and several local agencies on a nearly two-year project called Street Smart, a pedestrian safety initiative was implemented this spring. The initiative included traffic signal delays that ensured all traffic was stopped and gave pedestrians a longer time to cross the street, and clear signage to direct pedestrians on which side of the street was safest to cross.

“Morristown Medical Center’s focus on the safety of employees, particularly during the Street Smart pedestrian safety campaign, is to be commended,” said Daniel Callas, President, TransOptions, Inc. “Its leadership has helped to advance critical improvements to things like signal timing, signage, crosswalks, and most importantly driver and pedestrian behaviors.”

In addition to being recognized as Employer of the Year, the medical center maintained Platinum-level New Jersey Smart Workplaces designation, a recognition of investment in mobility options for team members.

“As the top hospital in the state, we commit to ensuring our patients can easily and safely access our clinical services, and also educating our community on healthy behaviors to stay active,” said Trish O’Keefe, PhD, RN, president of Morristown Medical Center. “We are pleased to have been named Employer of the Year for our commitment to pedestrian safety and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.”
