Below are some frequently asked questions about volunteering at Morristown Medical Center.

Do you always need volunteers?

We almost always need qualified and committed adult volunteers for certain positions. Please note, however, that due to volume and compliance, we cannot guarantee acceptance of all applications.

If I become a volunteer, will I get a job at the hospital?

Volunteering at Morristown Medical Center does not guarantee employment.

Will I be able to shadow a doctor or have a clinical experience when I volunteer at the hospital?

Morristown Medical Center’s Volunteer Services Department does not offer shadowing or clinical experiences.

How long do you keep an application?

Applications are held for three months only. If you do not complete the process within three months, your application will be discarded.

What is the time commitment required for being a Morristown Medical Center volunteer?

The minimum time commitment for adult volunteers is three to four hours per week for six months. You must be able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis.

What are the hours?

We have volunteers at Morristown Medical Center seven days a week from early in the morning through the evening (adult volunteers only).

How old must I be?

The minimum age to volunteer is 15.

How do I apply?

Application forms are accepted through online submission only:

You will be called for a TEAMS interview within 60 days if there is a match between your application and the current volunteer needs. You may also need a subsequent interview with a direct supervisor. Please note that due to the high volume, the interview process may take several weeks. If accepted, you will be required to obtain a certificate of good health from your physician, undergo tuberculosis testing, submit to a criminal background check, and attend orientation. Learn more about the application process and requirements >

How long does it take to be processed?

To ensure patient safety and the integrity of our volunteer program, the application process may take several weeks. Additionally, adult volunteers may not start without receiving clearance from the state regarding their criminal background form.

Is there a dress code?

Yes, adult men and women wear navy uniforms or dark blue tees provided by the hospital, as well as a photo identification badge. Junior volunteers are issued gray polo shirts or dark blue tees to keep and launder and must wear khaki pants. Jeans, shorts, short skirts, open-toed shoes, and perfume are prohibited. In addition, music devices may not be used while volunteering.

Our junior volunteer program is at full capacity and currently closed. As such, we are not accepting any new high school applications. Our 2024 Summer Program application will be available for a select few positions on April 1, 2024
