Learn more about hospital volunteering:
Do you always need volunteers?
We almost always need qualified and committed adult volunteers for certain positions. Please note, however, that due to volume and compliance, we cannot guarantee acceptance of all applications.
Will I be able to shadow a doctor or have a clinical experience when I volunteer at the hospital?
The Volunteer Services Department does not offer shadowing or clinical experiences. However, the hospital offers some of these programs throughout the year for high school students. To participate, please call 973-660-3528.
If I become a volunteer, will I get a job at the hospital?
Volunteering at Morristown Medical Center does not guarantee employment.
How long do you keep an application?
Applications are held for three months only. If you do not complete the process within three months, your application will be discarded.
What is the time commitment required for being a Morristown Medical Center volunteer?
The minimum time commitment is four hours per week for six months. You must be able to commit to coming in on a weekly basis.
What are the hours?
We have volunteers at Morristown Medical Center seven days a week from early in the morning through the evening (adult volunteers only).
How old must I be?
The minimum age to volunteer is 15.
How do I apply?
Application forms are accepted through online submission only:
- Adult volunteer application
- Junior volunteer application (15-18 years old)
You will be called for an interview within 60 days if there is a match between your application and the current volunteer needs. You may also need a subsequent interview with a direct supervisor in a department. Please note that due to high volume, the interview process may take several weeks. If accepted, you will be required to obtain a certificate of good health from your physician, undergo two tuberculosis tests, submit to a criminal background check and complete an online orientation. How long does it take to be processed?
To ensure patient safety and the integrity of our volunteer program, the application process may take several weeks. Additionally, adult volunteers may not start without receiving clearance from the state regarding their criminal background form.
Is there a dress code?
Yes, adult men and women wear navy uniforms provided by the hospital, as well as a photo identification badge. Junior volunteers are issued gray polo shirts to keep and launder and must wear khaki pants. Jeans, shorts, short skirts, open toed shoes and perfume are not permitted. In addition, music devices such as iPods may not be used while volunteering.
