Wait times represent the average estimated length of time from registration to being assigned a "first provider" (a doctor, nurse practitioner or physician assistant). Times displayed for Atlantic Health Systems are:

  • Reported as an average of wait times for the previous 2 hours of patients that have presented to the emergency department and have been seen by a provider
  • Refreshed at least every 15 minutes

Many circumstances can affect wait times - for example, patients arriving by ambulance or with life-threatening injuries or illnesses. Patients with severe conditions will be seen before those with less-serious problems or ailments. These times are provided for informational purposes only and cannot be guaranteed upon arrival.

Echocardiograms use sound waves to take pictures of the heart. Atlantic Health System Heart Care at Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Chilton Medical Center and Hackettstown Medical Center offers three types of echocardiograms:

Cardiac imaging professional performing echocardiogram
  • Two-dimensional echocardiogram with Doppler – produces an echocardiogram and a picture of the direction and speed of blood flow through the heart
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) – examines hard-to-see structures of the heart using ultrasound waves that are converted into 3D live and full volume images of the heart
  • Stress echocardiogram (exercise echo) – combines a cardiac ultrasound study with an exercise stress test to allow doctors to see how the heart functions when it is made to work harder
