Echocardiograms use sound waves to take pictures of the heart. Atlantic Health System Heart Care at Morristown Medical Center, Overlook Medical Center, Newton Medical Center, Chilton Medical Center and Hackettstown Medical Center offers of the following echocardiographic services:
- Transthoracic echocardiogram (TTE), 2D or 3D – creates real-time moving images of the heart structure and blood flow. For this test, the probe is placed on the surface of the body.
- Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE), 2D or 3D – examines hard-to-see structures of the heart using ultrasound waves that are converted into 3D live and full volume images of the heart. For this test, the probe is inserted into the body through the mouth under anesthesia.
- Exercise stress echocardiogram – combines a cardiac ultrasound study with an exercise stress test to allow doctors to see how the heart functions when it is made to work harder, with either treadmill or bicycle stress
- Pharmacologic stress echocardiogram - combines a cardiac ultrasound study with an exercise stress test to allow doctors to see how the heart functions when it is made to work harder, with pharmacologic stress
