Clinical Pastoral Education

Theological students lay people and clergy of all faiths (pastors, priests, ministers, rabbis and imams) can undertake Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) at Overlook Medical Center in Summit, NJ and at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown, NJ. 

CPE at Overlook Medical

Overlook Medical Center offers Level l and Level ll extended units and a summer intensive unit. Our interfaith, graduate level professional CPE education is an unpaid internship that consists of 400 hours of supervised learning, including a minimum of 300 hours of direct patient care and 100 hours of education. CPE Chaplains participate in the Spiritual Care Departments 24 hour/7day a week on call coverage.

Overlook is also accredited for CEC education.

CPE at Morristown Medical Center

Morristown Medical Center offers Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) in Summer intense, Extended (academic year) and Residency Programs. Summer and Extended programs are unpaid internships offering one unit of CPE, whereas our paid year-long Residency program offers three units of CPE. Each unit of CPE consists of 400 hours of supervised learning, including a minimum of 300 hours of direct patient care and 100 hours of education. Chaplain residents and interns participate in the Spiritual Care Department’s 24 hour/7 days a week on call coverage. Morristown Medical Center is accredited by ACPE, Inc. as a CPE center. To apply to any of our programs, please download and complete an application from the ACPE website (acpe.edu).
