School of Cardiovascular Technology

The School of Cardiovascular Technology was founded at Morristown Medical Center in 1976 to meet the need for competent cardiovascular technologists to assist cardiologists in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with heart and vascular disease.

It is one of only 96 accredited by the programs Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) and the only program in New Jersey that offers three clinical tracks – Invasive Cardiology, Non-Invasive Echocardiography and Non-Invasive Peripheral Vascular Studies. Through the CAAHEP accreditation, students are able to take the national registry exams given by Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) or the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS), in most cases, prior to graduation.

The six-month introductory portion of our program covers the fundamentals of cardiovascular technology and is followed by 12 months of instruction in a specialty concentration. After receiving a diploma and certifying qualification as a cardiovascular technologist, every student is eligible to work in a general community hospital, a specialized heart center or a physician’s private practice.

All lectures and classroom training are held at Morristown Medical Center and at the school's administrative office at 200 South Street in Morristown between 7:30am and 4:00pm. Clinical rotations take place at Atlantic Health System hospitals, as well as offsite clinical affiliations. The school reserves the right to alter the curriculum to meet changing technology and accreditation requirements.
