Meals and Dining

We make sure your meals are delicious, nutritious and in accordance with the diet prescribed by your physician. A daily menu with several selections for each meal for the next day is provided to you. To order from the menu, simply circle the items of choice for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Please remember that these selections are for the following day. Leave the menu in your room, and a member from our staff will stop by to collect it. Please note that your particular menu may be altered due to any dietary restrictions ordered by your physician.

For Patients

Morristown Medical Center
At Morristown Medical Center, daily menus offer many options, including anti-inflammatory selections, as well as kosher, vegetarian and vegan meals. If you require specific cultural food items, please contact our clinical nutrition coordinator at 973-971-5407.

Patients receive their breakfast tray between 7am and 9:30am, lunch between 11am and 1:30pm and dinner between 4pm and 6:30pm. 

Overlook Medical Center
At Overlook Medical Center, patients are served a hot breakfast between 7:15 and 8:30am, lunch between 11:15am and 12:45pm, and dinner between 5:00 and 6:30pm. In addition, vegetarian and kosher meals are available.

Newton Medical Center
Newton Medical Center’s Food Service department aims to provide well-balanced nutrition to aid in both treatment and recovery. Our meal service provides breakfast between 7:15 and 9:00am, lunch between 11:15am and 1:00pm and dinner between 4:15 and 6:00pm. A food service ambassador will be available to help you select your menu choices. Please note that your order may be altered due to any dietary restrictions ordered by your physician.

If you desire menu choices not offered on the selective menu, we would be happy to offer you our daily “Alternate Menu,” which contains a variety of traditional favorites. Please ask your food service ambassador for a copy of this menu. 

Chilton Medical Center
Your doctor will order your diet during your stay at Chilton. Like medication, nutrition can be vitally important to recovery, so you may find that your physician has placed you on a special diet. A professional registered dietitian may visit you to assess your nutritional status and need for diet education. You will select your meals from a menu developed by registered dietitians who will try to make your diet as enjoyable as possible. If you have questions regarding your diet or our meal service, please call the Food and Nutrition Department at 973-831-5228.

 Chilton recognizes the cultural, religious and ethnic needs of our patients and will try to make accommodations whenever possible.

If you find that a family member or significant other must be with you during meal times, guest meals are available. Guest meals can be ordered from your food and nutrition representative or by calling extension 5228.

Food brought in by visitors may be intended as a thoughtful gift, however, certain foods or beverages may interfere with your medications or special diet. Please check with your nurse or dietitian before eating anything brought in by family or other visitors.

Outpatient nutritional counseling is offered at 242 West Parkway, Pompton Plains. Please call 973-831-5216.


Alternate Menus

In addition to the regular daily menu, some hospitals offer an alternate menu that contains a variety of traditional favorite dishes not listed on the daily menu. Please ask your food service ambassador/ nutrition staff member for a copy of this menu.

At Morristown Medical Center, this is called the “Or You May Prefer” menu.

At Overlook Medical Center and Newton Medical Center, this is called the “Alternate Menu Selections” menu.

Meals that Heal ($4.99/meal)
Before leaving Newton Medical Center, patients have the option of ordering delicious and nutritious meals-to-go with the hospital’s Meals that Heal program. Designed for patients who may not have family or friends locally to assist with cooking, Meals that Heal are delicious and healthy menu options that you can order and take home with you. They are low in fat and sodium, and meet nutritional guidelines. For your convenience, all meals are microwaveable. To place an order, call 973-579-8637 between 7:00am and 6:45pm.

Guest Tray Service
At Morristown Medical Center, your visitors can order breakfast, lunch or dinner guest trays and dine with you. Each meal is $7.00 and must be ordered in advance. The meal cost will be charged to your account. To arrange for a guest tray, call the Diet Office at 973-971-5408.

At Overlook Medical Center, your visitors can order breakfast, lunch or dinner guest trays for a nominal cost. Your nurse can arrange for these meals.

Morristown Medical Center
Morristown Medical Center has three options for visitors: Starbucks, Apple A Day Café and Mo’Town Café. 

Starbucks

Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or a hot beverage, the Starbucks at Morristown Medical Center has many options to choose from. On the menu are three different blends of coffee brewed daily, as well as espresso and tea-based drinks. The cafe also offers a variety of fresh sandwiches, including breakfast sandwiches cooked to order, paninis, salads and signature pastries from the La Boulange Bakery.

Starbucks is located just off the main lobby and is open Monday through Friday, 6:00am to 11:00pm; and Saturday and Sunday, 7:00am to 10:00pm.

Apple A Day Café

Apple A Day Café is a Starbucks-branded solution serving coffee, espresso and tea-based beverages. It also features a full line of gourmet soups, sandwiches, salads and wraps. Breakfast sandwiches are available in five varieties, including a veggie option, and Rockland Bakery delivers fresh pastries daily.

For the convenience of our patients and visitors, Apple A Day has two locations within Morristown Medical Center – Gagnon Cardiovascular Institute (Gagnon C) and Goryeb Children’s Hospital (main lobby, D Level). Both are open Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 7:00pm. An additional Apple A Day is located at 111 Madison Avenue and is open Monday through Friday, 8:00am to 3:00pm.

Mo’Town Café

The Mo’Town Café, open to visitors and employees, is located on Level B of the Leonard B. Kahn Pavilion. Hours of operation are:  

  • 1:00 to 6:30am, early grab n’ go    
  • 6:30 to 10:00am, breakfast
  • 10:00 to 11:00am, grab n’ go
  • 11:00am to 2:00pm, lunch
  • 2:00 to 4:00pm, grab n’ go
  • 4:00 to 7:00pm, dinner

Although the café is closed from 7:00pm to 1:00am, vending machines located in the café’s seating area are available 24 hours a day. Patients and visitors can check the patient education channel for more details on the Mo’Town Café.

Overlook Medical Center

Overlook Medical Center offers the Summit Restaurant, Donna’s Café and Donna’s II.

The Summit Restaurant

This cafeteria, located on the fourth floor off the main elevators, is open daily for visitors and staff from 6:30 to 10:30am, 11:00am to 3:45pm, 4:30 to 7:00pm and 9:00 to 11:45pm. We offer a wide variety of choices to satisfy your dining needs.

Donna’s Café and Donna’s II

Donna’s Café is located on the fifth floor just off the main lobby and is open Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 8:30pm, and Saturday and Sunday, 9:00am to 5:30pm.

Donna’s II, located just off the main lobby of the Medical Arts Center (MAC) II building, is open Monday through Friday from 7:00am to 3:00pm.

Newton Medical Center

Newton Café and Garden Level Cafeteria

Newton Medical Center also has food services available for visitors and guests at our Garden Level Cafeteria, on the ground floor, and Newton Café in the lobby.

Newton Café is open Monday through Friday, 6:30am to 6:00pm, and has the following foods available:

  • Continental breakfast items
  • Hot breakfast sandwiches
  • Hot entrées
  • Pizza
  • Paninis and sandwiches
  • Salads, soup and chili
  • Yogurt, fruit
  • Baked desserts, chips and snacks
  • Hot gourmet coffee and tea selections, bottled water, soda and juice

The Garden Level Cafeteria is open Monday through Friday 6:30am to 8:00pm, Saturday and Sunday 7:00am to 8:00pm and has the following foods available:

  • Chef’s choice - hot meal of the day
  • Continental breakfast items
  • Cook to order grill services for breakfast and lunch
  • Fresh made-to-order sandwiches
  • Soup and chili
  • Pizza
  • Fresh salad bar
  • Grab and go offerings
  • Hot gourmet coffee and tea selections
  • Yogurt, fruit, baked desserts, chips and snacks
  • Fountain soda, bottled water, soda and juice

Chilton Medical Center

Good Food Café

The Good Food Café is located across from the visitors’ elevators on the first floor. Hot and cold beverages and a wide variety of foods are available. Hours of operation are 6:00am to 9:00pm Monday through Friday and 8:00am to 8:00pm Saturday and Sunday.

Hackettstown Medical Center

Hackettstown Medical Center has two options for visitors: The Willow Grove Street Cafeteria and the West Wing Coffee Kiosk.

Willow Grove Street Cafeteria

Hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 to 10:00am; 10:30am to 6:30pm

Saturday – Sunday, 8:00 to 10:00am; 12:00 to 2:00pm

West Wing Coffee Kiosk Hours

Monday – Friday, 7:00am to 2:00pm

The cafeteria and kiosk accept cash and credit cards. Vending machines are located in the Willow Grove Street lobby (to the left of the entrance to the cafeteria) and in the Emergency Department waiting area.

Each patient floor has a refrigerator stocked with healthy snacks and beverages for our patients. Please feel free to ask a member of your care team for assistance.
