Valerie Fund Children’s Center at Atlantic Health System Children's Health provides comprehensive treatment services to children with cancer and blood disorders.

Pediatric Cancer Center

Our center treats children who have cancers such as:

  • Brain tumors
  • Bone tumors, such as osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma
  • Leukemia
  • Lymphomas
  • Solid tumors, such as Wilms’ tumor, rhabdomyosarcoma and neuroblastoma

In addition to treating pediatric cancer, we also provide treatment for adolescents and young adults who have typical childhood cancers, and we have a vascular malformations clinic for patients with hemangioma and hemangioma endothelioma. Children with melanoma are treated in conjunction with Carol G. Simon Cancer Center’s Atlantic Melanoma Center at Morristown Medical Center.

Through our partnership with the Children's Oncology Group (COG) – the largest cooperative cancer research group sponsored by the National Cancer Institute – our patients have access to state-of-the-art technology and the latest techniques in pediatric surgery and radiation oncology.

Most of the pediatric cancer treatment is performed on an outpatient basis at our center, with on-site anesthesia available for children having invasive procedures. It features a child-friendly atmosphere with child life specialists on hand to ease our patients’ anxiety about being in a hospital. Arts and crafts, video games and DVDs are available.

For additional outpatient treatments, we refer our pediatric cancer and blood disorder patients to Atlantic Healthy Lifestyles – Integrative Medicine Centers, where they receive mind body services, massage, therapeutic touch, acupressure, acupuncture and more.

Inpatient services are provided within the pediatric units at Goryeb Children’s Hospital at Morristown Medical Center and Hersh Children's Center at Overlook Medical Center.

For pediatric cancer survivors, long-term follow-up clinics are available at Valerie Fund Children’s Center.

Pediatric Blood Disorders

Our center treats children with diverse blood disorders, such as:

  • Aplastic anemia
  • Bleeding disorders
  • Gaucher disease
  • Hemophilia
  • Hypercoagulability or thrombosis
  • Platelet disorders
  • Sickle cell disease
  • Thalassemia
  • White blood cell disorders

Some of our treatment services for blood disorders include chronic transfusions and home infusions.
