Vice President, Clinical Intelligence
Dr. James Barr began serving as Vice President, Clinical Intelligence in 2016, in a capacity that provides clinical and business intelligence with aligned data governance, value analytics and data science capabilities. Under his guidance the Atlantic Health System Enterprise Information Management platform is delivering advanced intelligence for clinical and financial decisions.
Dr. Barr continues to support the Atlantic Health System clinically integrated networks including the Atlantic Accountable Care Organization and Optimus Healthcare Partners ACO, and helps to manage physician and patient engagement to drive excellence in Atlantic Health System quality outcomes, patient experience scores and affordability of care metrics.
His focus areas include care management, care coordination, care transitions, aligning compensation with performance and compliance with CMS ACO regulations. In this capacity, he currently supports the management of over 2,500 physicians covering more than 390,000 ACO beneficiaries.
Dr. Barr has practiced medicine as a board certified family physician since 1986, and since 1987 has been actively managing his own practice, Primary Care Partners - Pleasant Run Family Physicians in Neshanic Station, New Jersey. From 1995 to 2013, Dr. Barr served as Chairman in multiple other capacities in provider-sponsored Management Service Organizations, provider-sponsored Integrated Healthcare Delivery Systems and primary care and specialty care IPAs, which involved governance, recruitment, managed care, risk contracting, and clinical integration. In 2012, he worked with Aveta Health Solutions (North American Medical Management-NAMM) as Vice President of Medical Services providing full-risk medical management capabilities using physician and patient-centric models. He served on the Horizon BCBS of New Jersey HMO Board of Directors for seven years.
Dr. Barr completed his undergraduate studies at Wilkes University, obtained his medical degree from Hahnemann University, and completed his residency at Somerset Medical Center, Somerville, NJ.
